Sister Mark Szczepanik, 61, of Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died late morning, May 2, at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Rev. Flavian Blong, O.F.M. Cap., will officiate and burial will be in Holy Family Convent Cemetery.
Sister was born Leona Szczepanik on January 31, 1925 at Wausaukee, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Walter and Rose Stronzek Szczepanik. She entered the convent in 1939 and professed her voews in 1943. She received her B.A. Degree in 1965 from Holy Family College, Manitowoc and her M.A. Degree in 1973 from the University of Rochester, New York. Sister taught primary grades at St. Anthony School, Oconto Falls; Guardian Angels School at Oneida; St. Mary School at Kaukauna; St. Peter School at Middleton; St. Mary School at Reedsville; St. Theresa School at Kekaha, Kauai, Hawaii; St. John School at Laveen, Arizona; St. Peter School at Bapchule, Arizona; Sacred Heart School at Covered Wells, Arizona; and St. Anthony School at Topawa, Arizona. Since 1983 Sister has been a Librarian Resource Coordinator at House Ear Institute of Los Angeles, California.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Leota Szczepanik of Ft. Aransas, Texas and Edward and Mary Agnes Sepanik of Pinellas Park, Florida and a sister, Mrs. Sophie Wall of Denmark, Wisconsin.
Friends may call at Holy Family Convent, 4 pm to 8 pm Sunday evening where a prayer service will be at 7 pm at the Convent Chapel. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
