MRS. BURDICK, 79, CAR CRASH VICTIM

A Hudson woman was killed in a two car accident Sunday at 12:15 p.m. at the intersection of M-34 and Sand Creek Highway. Mrs. Fern Burdick, 79, of 311 Pleasant Street was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Donald Dunmore.
State Police of the Blissfield Post, said Mrs. Burdick was a passenger in a car operated by Mark Louis Burdick, 21, of 255 Park Street, Manitou Beach. Another passenger in the car was Mrs. Terry Burdick, also of 255 Park Street. She was admitted to Bixby Hospital with head and internal injuries. Mark Burdick was admitted to Bixby with a fractured left arm.
State Police said the Burdick car was going east on M -34 and made a left turn onto Sand Creek Highway in front of a car moving west on M-34 and driven by Daniel Lee Dennis, 23, of 6131 Plank Road, Clayton. The Burdick car was struck broadside by the Dennis car, police said. Mr. Dennis said he would seek his own treatment for minor injuries. Mr. Burdick was issued a summons for an improper left turn.
HILLSDALE COLLEGE GRADUATE
Mrs. Fern Burdick was born Aug. 20, 1891, in Medina Township. She married Arthur Louis Burdick Dec. 1, 1917, at Hudson, who preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1964.
She was graduated from Hudson High School in 1910 and from Hillsdale College in 1914. Mrs. Burdick was a retired teacher.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority of Hillsdale College. She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hudson, life member of the Lenawee County Historical Society and a member of the Hudson Area Senior Citizens. She was past president of both the Women's Fellowship of the church and the Jackson-Ann Arbor Association Women's Fellowship. She was a past moderator of the General Association of the Jackson-Ann Arbor District. A former president of the Hudson PTA, she was also a life member of the Hudson Friday Club.
SURVIVORS LISTED
Surviving are two sons, George of Adrian, and Harry of Las Cruces, N.M.; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Ellen) Thurman of Warren; two brothers, J. C. Sawyer of Hudson, and Thomas Sawyer of Battle Creek; a sister, Mrs. George (Jean) Mishop of Hudson; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Hudson, the Rev. Jack Middaugh officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
