Mother Pearl Cohen Brantley

Estill, South Carolina - Funeral service for Mother Pearl C. Brantley, 93, of 710 Chocolate City Road, Nixville Community of Estill, was held Friday, September 2, 2011, 11:00 A.M. at Efferson Missionary Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina. Pastor Hallie Capers and Minister James Brantley, Jr. were the officials in charge. Committal, final prayer and interment was conducted in Smith Cemetery of Estill.

Washington's Funeral Home of Hampton was entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Mother Pearl C. Brantley, daughter of the late Mr. Archie and Mrs. Anna Cohen, was born in Hampton County, South Carolina on June 13, 1918. She was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Colleton Regional Medical Center, Walterboro, South Carolina.

She was a member of Efferson Missionary Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina where she served as Church Treasurer and Senior Choir Member for several years.

A loving and kind woman, she helped in rearing a number of young men in the neighborhood, along with her sons. After the passing of her best friend and cousin, Albertha Bert Cohen, she continued to raise her children: Earl, Shirley, Ethel and Agnes Cohen.

To precede her in death were three sisters: Rosa Flowers, Corine Jones and Iola Hopkins; and one brother, Archie Cohen, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: (2) Daughters: Pearlie Brantley of the home and Elnora Newton (John) of Nixville, S.C.; (6) Sons: Elder Coy Brantley (Earlene) of Furman, S.C., Roy Brantley of the home, Harrison Brantley (Naomi) of Maplewood, N.J., Willingham Brantley (Jeanette) of Ridgeland, S.C., James Brantley (Grace) of Pineland, S.C., and Robert Brantley (Sharon) of Trikirt, Iraq; (2) Sisters: Leola Gordon and Louise Williams, both of Nixville, S.C.; (6) Sisters-in-law: Mariah Brantley of Lena, S.C., Mary Gregory of Estill, S.C., Addie Haynes (Frances) of Nixville, S.C., Doretha Smoaks of Brunson, S.C., Jeanette Sullivan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Geraldine Cohen of Beaufort, S.C.; A brother-in-law, Abraham Brantley of Nixville, S.C.; (45) Grandchildren, which includes a special grandson, Minister James Brantley, Jr.; (49) Great Grandchildren; (20) Great Great Grandchildren; A god-daughter, Jeanette Myers of Nixville, S.C.; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
