Helen Kathryn Menges
Former seamstress was eldest in her church
Helen Kathryn Menges, 97, formerly of King Street, Turbotville, passed away Oct. 21, 2012, at Emeritus of Bloomsburg Assisted Living.
Born July 5, 1915, in Lewis Township, she was the daughter of the late William N. and Lillian E. Boyle Cotner. She was the wife of Charles L. Roberts, who preceded her in death in 1965, and S. Lee Menges, who preceded her in death in 1995.
At the time of her death, Helen was the oldest member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church; she was a member since birth.
She was a 1933 graduate of Turbotville High School and returned to Turbotville in 1968 from Washington, D.C. She worked for Sears for many years and earlier in life, worked at the former Platts Restaurant and Nickolett's in Lewisburg. She also worked as a seamstress for many years and participated in the Columbia-Montour Aging office's PEER Training.
Helen is survived by a stepson: Robert (Ann) Menges of Muncy; a stepdaughter, Ann (Paul) Conard of Bloomsburg; step-grandchildren, including Paula (Paul) Faus of Bloomsburg; her caretaker, Holly (Tom) Dagney; Molly (Wade) Gottstein and Christian and Stephen Menges; step-great-grandchildren: Jason and Daniel Gottstein and Justin Faus, and her very close friend, Ruth Faux, at Emeritus of Bloomsburg Assisted Living.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Helen was preceded in death by a son, Donald W. Roberts, in 1966, and a sister, Leona M. Bieber, in 2006.
Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Dan May, officiating. Burial will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.
Family will provide flowers and suggest contributions in Helen's name be made to her church's building fund, 10275 Route 44, Turbotville, PA 17772 or the Turbotville Community Hall, Church Street, Turbotville, PA 17772
