Lou's parents were: Joseph Grove Denton 1810-1896 and Margaret Calhoun 1813-1900. She married Gustavus Adolphus "Gus" Jarvis (FAG# 94707310) on 6 Dec 1866 in Smith Co, TX. They continued to live in Smith Co until Gus's death in 1884. They had 7 children. On the 1900 census, she is age 55, widowed and 4 of her single daughters are living with her, two of them are school teachers. By 1910, she is living with her son, Albert Sidney and his family. She is also listed on the 1910 census in Cherokee Co, TX with her daughter, Eva and her family. She died in Jacksonville, Cherokee Co at the age of 72.

Obit in Tyler Daily Courier Times, April 26, 1917. The funeral services of Mrs. M. L. Jarvis who died in Jacksonville Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock were held at the Ebenezer Cemetery near Arp, Wednesday afternoon...Deceased was an honored resident of Smith County and in her 73 year. She is survived by 6 children as follows. Dr. A. F. (sic-S) Jarvis and Mrs. J. F. Hold (sic-JS Hale) of Troup, Webster Jarvis of Tyler, Stuart R Smith (sic-Mrs) of Beaumont, Miss Lelia (sic) Jarvis and J.C. Maynard (sic-Mrs) of Jacksonville.

Died April 24, 1917, aged 72. Buried in Ebenezer Cemetery. Born June 15, 1844, in Mississippi. Survived by children: Dr. A.S. Jarvis, Troup; Mrs. Clarence Maynard, Jacksonville; Jordan Hale, Troup; Web Jarvis, Tyler; Mrs. S.R. Smith, Beaumont; Miss Leila Jarvis, Jacksonville. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Maynard at Jacksonville. Her father was J.G. Denton who came to Texas in 1854 and settled near Salem. She was united in marriage to G.A. Jarvis on December 6, 1866 and to this union the children mentioned above were born. A girl died in infancy. Her husband died October 12, 1884. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Rev. L.H. McGee conducted the services.
