Lynn Robert Erdmann was born in Mellette, South Dakota on August 20, 1919 to Robert Henry and Nellie Verle (Slack) Erdmann. After attending grade school in LaPraire Township in Spink County he graduated from Brentford High School in 1937. He then went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills. On February 13, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on November 24, 1945. He married Eleanor Roberts on June 8, 1949. They made their home near Stratford, South Dakota where Lynn farmed. In 1952, he accepted the job as rural mail carrier and they moved to Stratford. After retiring in 1980 they wintered in Texas until moving to Arizona in 1990. Lynn was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Stratford. He belonged to the Brown County and National Rural Letter Carriers Associations. Lynn served as secretary for the local carrier's organization for twenty-five years. He joined the Legion Post #207 of Stratford in 1945 and was adjutant for a number of years. He served as mayor of Stratford from 1960-1970. After moving to Apache Junction, he volunteered at Four Peaks Elementary School for fourteen years. Lynn enjoyed farming, working on his machinery and automobiles.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; daughters, Verle Ann (Ted) Sitz, Harvey, North Dakota and Jayne (Steve) Ewell, Mesa, Arizona; Grandchildren, Brett Sitz, St. Louis, Missouri, Darren and Laura Sitz, Moorhead, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Erdmann and Jack Holcomb.
