His obituary found in The State 27 December 1951: Phillip Sidney Calvo, Sr., stone cutter of 2112 Main street died at 7:35 yesterday morning at the Veterans hospital. Mr. Calvo was born in Columbia, the son of the late Charles A. and Angeline Effie Thompson Calvo. His father was publisher of the Columbia Register, former Columbia newspaper. he was employed by the Consolidated Granite company here. He served two years in the armed forces during the first world was. Survivors include his widow Mrs. Elizabeth Altee Calvo; one son Phillip S. Calvo, Jr., of Richmond, Va.; two grandchildren, Betsy Ellison Calvo and Phillip S. Calvo, 3rd; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah C. Perkins of San Francisco, Calif., and Mrs. Angeline Dunavant of Philadelphia, Pa.; three brtoehrs, Donald A. Calvo of Ocala, Fla., Talley Calvo of Columbia, and Lamar F. Calvo of Washington, D. C., and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will he held at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the Dunbar funeral home conducted by the Rev. A. B. Ferguson. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Feagan, Sidney S. Blackburn, Hunter Elkins, Homer Derrick, James E. Morris and W. R. Hartin, Sr.
