Mary Ellen Alexander

Mary Ellen Alexander, of Townsend, Delaware passed away on March 31, 2012, in Christiana Hospital, surrounded by her devoted and loving family.

Mary Ellen was born Mary Ellen Knotts in Milford, Delaware, on April 29, 1936, to Lida E. Knotts and Samuel C. Knotts, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Michael and Jeffrey, her grandchildren, Samantha and Zachary, brothers Harold F. Knotts and Russell Knotts, and sisters, Vera Lee Burger and Thelma L. Rhoades.

Mary Ellen was one of six children and lived her entire life in the Townsend area.

She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband of 56 years, John Alexander, daughter Mary Ellen (Alexander) Greene (Richard), son John C. (Karissa), grandsons Chad C. Alexander and Blake E. Alexander (Lissa), granddaughter Tess E. Greene, brother Samuel C. Knotts, Jr., sister-in-law Frances Knotts, brother-in-law Andy Burger, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cats, Lady and Tramp. She also leaves behind many true and valuable friends.

She worked for Chrysler for many years, retiring in 1998. Mary Ellen had a full life, most often involving activities with her tightly-knit family. She loved shopping - for anything! She was an energetic pro football and baseball fan, always cheering for her Minnesota Vikings and the Phillies. She was a member of the Middletown Congregation Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Visitation will be held at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE, on Friday evening, April 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7th, at 11:00 a.m, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery.

Mary Ellen's family would like to thank the nursing staff of Christiana Heart and Vascular Center Intensive Care Unit for their dedication, professionalism, and humanity in looking after our dear loved one.
