Gary Richard Albers was born on October 29, 1940 in Glasgow, Montana. He was the son of Ora and Alda Elsberry Albers and was one of four children in the family. He was a 1959 graduate of Persia High School.

Gary met Monida Ottinger in Omaha, Nebraska, and they were united in marriage on June 28, 1968 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They were the parents of three children: Bill, Kevin, and Tanya. They lived in Persia, Iowa for several years before moving to Avoca in 1971.

Gary enjoyed fishing and camping and just being in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture when he had the time. Gary farmed for several years in the Persia and Avoca areas and also worked for IBP in Council Bluffs and he was currently working for Oakland Foods in Oakland, Iowa.

Gary passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 16, 2000. He had attained the age of 59 years, 4 months, and 16 days. His father and a brother, Myron, preceded Gary in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Monika; his mother Alda of the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center; three children: Bill and his wife Wanna of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin and his wife Jacki of Hancock, Iowa, and Tanya of Omaha, Nebraska; a grandson Jason of San Antonio; two sisters, Janis Schutt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Venita Grap of Persia; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Services were held Monday, March 20, 2000 at the United Church of Avoca in Avoca, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Will Bynagte officiating. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Linda Warner and soloist Mrs. Ann Johnk who sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "The Lord's Prayer."

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa, with Mike Nuzum, Mark Schutt, Bruce Bruck, Mike Grap, Dennis Albers, and David Albers serving as bearers.
