September 24, 1916 – October 17, 2012
Tom was born in New York City. He was the son of Irish immigrants, Anna May and Joseph Bolger. His father was killed in an automobile accident when Tom was only 16 years old. He finished high school in three years and went to work to support the family.
Even though Tom had a deferment, he joined the Navy during World War II. He was a Navy corpsman and was honorably discharged at the end of the war.
He worked in sales management for most of his life. His son asked him to come out of retirement and help run Petroleum Management Inc. in San Diego. He worked hard to make the business successful until 1991, when he retired for good.
When his wife of 66 years, Dorothy, passed away in 2006, Tom moved to Grand Junction to be with his son.
Tom is survived by his son, Tom, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Lynn, of Grand Junction, and his grandson, Tom, III, whom he was especially close to. Tom is also survived by his sister, Clair Norton, of New Jersey, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in New Jersey and Ohio.
He will be buried next to his wife at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, in San Diego.
Tom's family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Grand Junction Veterans Medical Center. They gave extraordinary care and compassion during his final days. Thank you.
