Franciscan Sister of Charity Sister Virginese Welch died March 3 at the Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc, Wis. She was 97.
Sister Welch entered the Franciscan order in 1929 and took her final vows in 1935. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis., and later taught at St. John in Menominee, Mich. as well as at several schools in Wisconsin, Ohio and Illinois.
She retired in 1990 and resided at the St. Rita Health Center at the motherhouse in Manitowoc until her death.
