SAN ANGELO - Nellie Ray Ellis Waddell passed away at her home Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, after a long illness.
She was born June 15, 1939, to Elton and Claudia Ellis in Rocksprings, Texas. She married Dale Waddell July 28, 1956. She and Dale lived in Rocksprings, Kerrville, San Angelo and Dallas. They moved back to San Angelo in 1998 and retired.
Nell worked at the San Angelo State School from 1972 until her move to Dallas in 1986, where she worked for Cedar Hill School District until her move back to San Angelo. She worked at the State School again from 1998 to 2001 and then retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers Joe, Buck and Jimmy. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tommie Nell, in 1959.
Nell is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dale, and her two children, Tom Waddell of San Angelo and Penny Yerena of Fort Worth. She is also survived by two wonderful grandchildren, Cam Snow of Eagle Pass and Ashli Kaczor and her husband, Tim, of El Paso. She leaves behind one beautiful great-grandddaughter, Addy. Nell is also survived by one brother, George Ellis. She also leaves behind two spoiled pets, Roxie and Harry.
Nell was a loving wife and mother and doted on her family endlessly. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, but mostly will be remembered by her family and friends for her ability to make anyone feel as though they were a part of her family. Strangers and acquaintances were always welcome in her house. She often expressed her love through her cooking and her holiday meals will be sorely missed.
The Waddells extend special thanks to Dr. Vayden Stanley and the wonderful and caring staff at VistaCare Hospice services. Your kindness will forever be appreciated. The family also offers thanks to friends, neighbors and extended family members for their patience and support.
There will be a short service at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Johnson's Funeral Home, followed by another short service and burial at 3 p.m. in Rocksprings Cemetery.
A Wonderful Mother
God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grows old;
He made her smile of the sunshine, And He molded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars,
In her cheeks, fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother,
And He gave that dear mother to me.
