OBITUARY

Omaha Daily Herald, August 13, 1879, p. 8, col. 4

Mary F. Creighton.

Death has again invaded the family of our esteemed fellow townsman, John D. Creighton. Scarcely three weeks have passed since he buried a beautiful boy, and now he is called upon to mourn the loss of a darling sister, the daughter of the late Francis Creighton. She died yesterday morning at seven o'clock, and with the same fell disease that carried away her nephew. Mary F. Creighton was born in Springfield, Ohio, and at the time of her death was but eighteen years of age, just budding into beautiful womanhood, with all the world and its brightness before her, and yet she died without a struggle and apparently without regret, and with that resignation which a Christian alone possesses on the threshold of eternity. She was a mere school girl, yet her mind was brightened by diligently acquired and useful knowledge, and she displayed both in her manner and conversation a cultivation as rare as it was pleasing. She was the life of her happy home, and the beloved of her now sorrowing mother, whose heart is cleft by this great bereavement.

The funeral services will begin by prayers at the house at half past nine this morning. Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral at half past ten, and from thence the funeral will proceed to the cemetery of the "Holy Sepulchre."

August 14, 1879, p. 8, col. 1

The funeral of the late Miss Mary F. Creighton was held at St. Philomena's cathedral yesterday and the services were remarkably solemn and impressive. Rev. Father Shoffel officiated, and the pall-bearers were Messrs. M. W. Clair, J. A. McShane, Fred. Nash, John Reynolds, M. Donnovan, Charles McDonald, Thomas Tallon and Wm. Gentleman.
