"The death of Mrs. Mary E. Burditt Lynes occurred Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock, at her home on Susquehanna avenue at the age of eighty-five years. She had been an invalid for twenty years. Mary Emma Burditt Lynes was born in Cooperstown in the old Burditt homestead on Pioneer street, August 20th, 1832. May 22d, 1860, she was married to James A. Lynes, a prominent Cooperstown attorney whose death occurred July 20th, 1895. As a girl she attended a select girls' school in Springfield from which she graduated with honors. Mrs. Lynes was one of the oldest members of the First Presbyterian church of Cooperstown and took a lively interest in the affairs of the church as long as her health permitted. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Elizabeth Lynes, who has given her mother devoted care during her long illness. The funeral will be held from the home, Friday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, the Rev. N. W. Wells and the Rev. Edward C. Petrie officiating. Interment at Lakewood."
