Former Resident of Meeme Dies At Algoma Wednesday
John Netzer, 89, former Meeme resident, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Schmitt at Algoma. He was born in Germany and located in Meeme when a boy of fourteen. In 1869 he was married to Margaret Binveral(sic) who passed away fourteen years ago. He was a member of the Catholic Knights.
The survivors are five daughters; Mrs. Mary McWilliams, Mrs. Nick Reding, and Mrs. John Rock, all of Sheboygan; Mrs. Charles Schmitt, Algoma and Mrs. E. Kestell of Elkhart Lake.
Remains of the deceased will arrive directly from Algoma on Friday morning, when funeral services will be held at 10:30 at Holy Trinity church, School Hill, and burial will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

On June 15, 1870, John and Margaret Netzer purchased the second farm from his father for $500 for 40 acres. He bought an additional 20 acres later.
Before the Netzer’s had horses, their son, John and to walk to Sheboygan to buy a fifty pound bag of Flour and carry it home on his back. Sometimes he was able to catch a ride part of the way with other travelers. The Netzer’s were one of the first in the neighborhood to have horses.
Margaret Netzer died on the 8th of November 1917, of diabetic gangarene of the right foot, and was buried on Holy Trinity cemetery at School Hill. John Netzer lived with the Redings a good many years after his wife’s death. Then later in life, when he was about 80, he moved to Algoma to live with his daughter Anna Schmitt and her husband Charles and their family. He died at Algoma.
