Anita R. Aiken of Lompoc died Friday, October 26, 2012, at the age of 90 at an assisted living home in Citrus Heights.
Anita was born March 15, 1922, to Charles and Mattie Mason in Armington, Illinois. After graduating from high school in 1939 she attended college in Illinois. Starting in New Jersey she worked intermittently in civil service.
Anita was married to Junius "Jake" Aiken in 1942. In 1957 her family was transferred from Misawa Air Force Base in Japan to Camp Cook, now Vandenberg Air Force Base. She completed her education by graduating from Allan Hancock and later from Chapman College with a bachelor's degree and master's degree in history and social science.
Anita was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lompoc and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading, hiking the mountains of Idaho, and to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary Anita and Jake climbed Mount Whitney in California.
Anita is survived by her daughter Janice Aiken of San Luis Obispo, her sons Neil Aiken of Lompoc and Keith Aiken of Antelope, her sister Shirley Kanick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, four grandchildren and one great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Jake in 1993 and a granddaughter Tamra.
The graveside funeral service will be on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at the Lompoc Cemetery.
