Graveside services for Thomas C. Casey, 91, formerly of Montell, Texas, were held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Vance Cemetery at Vance. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 27th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Camp Wood.
Tom died October 17, 2012, at Cedar Ridge Alzheimer's Center in Cedar Park, Texas after an extended illness. He was born December 27, 1920, on the Casey Ranch between Barksdale and Vance, Real County, and married Naomi Ruth Hicks on Dec. 11, 1941, in Uvalde. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Camp Wood.
He served in the Army during World War II, including 26 months in the South Pacific, and worked for 32 years for Central Power and Light Company. He retired from their home office in Corpus Christi in 1979.
Tom enjoyed a lifelong interest in the Casey family history, which he fostered by participating in the Casey family reunions from their inception. The Casey family reunites each summer in Kerrville and 2012 marked the 63rd family reunion.
He was a master craftsman who could design, repair or reengineer almost anything. He was always willing to help others and many structures in his community are a testament to his help and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Volney and Mary Casey, his sister, Eula Mae Talley, and wife of 56 years, Naomi Casey.
Tom is survived by his current wife, Eloise, now living in Enid, Oklahoma; daughters, Paula White of Camp Wood and Pam Fox of Austin; twin sons, Dwight Casey and Wright Casey of Austin; sisters, Eva Lee Fitzgerald of Kingsland and Naomi Steele of Miami, Arizona; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Tom's grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.
