Born at Holand on Holandsfjord, Meloy district in Nordland. Emmigrated to the US in 1898 via Liverpool and Quebec, landing first at the farm his parents and siblings homesteaded to the NE of Angus, Polk Co., MN. Came to Tacoma, Pierce, WA in the very early 1900's. Worked for the railroads. After his wife, Olina "Lena" died in 1916 from pneumonia, he arranged to marry an old friend from Norway. She traveled to New York and they were married there. She became too homesick to stay and returned to Norway. At some point they were divorced but he never remarried.
Emil and his wife are said to have married in Norway though no record of that has been found to date.
