Virgil Sizemore was born in Cullman Co Al on 25 Feb 1888. He attended the public shcools of the county. He later attended Collegiate Institute High Shcool in Joppa AL in 1909 & 1910. Attended Thorsby Institute in Chilton Co at Clanton AL. Attended Newton Baptist Academy in south Alabama, fostered by Home Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention. Received certificate from Howard College. He never missed one session for ten years in succession, while taking a refresher course for ministers at Howard College.
Ordained to preach at New Hope #2 Baptist church on 12 Jan 1922. He pastored many churches for 24 years throughout this county and adjoining counties. Served as Moderator for the Cullman Baptist Association for 21 years.
In 1946 went into Mission work in Cullman County and twenty-six other counties in the state of Alabama. He also did Mission work for special service in five other states outside Alabama. While doing mission work his faithful wife served a his secretary.
Served as member on State Executive Board for a number of years.
Served as counselor to many different churches in dispute over several counties in Alabama. A great man to dissipate trouble and help to bring churches back together. Helped to organize the following churches: Anon, Daniels Chapel, East Side, Edgewood, Fairview, Friendship, Riverside, Midway, Mission Grove, Mt Hebron, Shady Grove, Steppville, and Whites Grove.
Served in WWI in 1918 overseas. He was fighting on the Rhine River in Germany at the time of surrender, Eleventh hour, Eleventh day, Eleventh month 1918.
He has done supply and interim work since his retirement as missionary in 1955.
Married 16 Feb 1932 to Rachel E Burks. They have 2 children: Conola (Jackie) Robbins and Virginia R Hulsey. Six grandchildren. (Wes Robbins, Debbie Hulsey, Teresa Robbins, Beth Robbins, Jay Hulsey, Robert Robbins.)
They reside at Fairview and continue to serve the Lord in beautiful testimony to all who visit them.

Virgil served as a private in Co C, 306th Engineers. He was drafted on 25 May 1918 to be trained at Camp Sevier in Greenville SC. The company received orders on 15 Jul 1918 to move to Camp Upton for shipment overseas. On 30 July they embarked on the British steamer "Canada" and docked at Liverpool, England on 11 Aug, then marched to Camp Knotty Ash, Liverpool. He served at various locations in Europe under the command of Col Robert Ross Ralston, Col Thatcher T P Luquer, and Col Charles R Pettis.
