He graduated with Honors from Classical High School in Worcester MA in 1908. He then attended and graduated from the Worcester Normal School, now known as Worcester State University. He began teaching school and was the principal of a school in New Jersey. While in New Jersey 2 of his daughters were born there and he attended classes at NYU. He was very talented as a musician playing both the piano and violin.

He returned to Worcester and in 1930 was operating his own business in real estate. After World War II he and his wife and son Jackie would move to Florida to be with their daughters who were living there.
