ALFRED N. BENCH CALLED BY DEATH
Alfred Newton Bench, 24, a teacher at Cole junior high school at Denver and the son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Bench, 1339 Carteret avenue, died Monday at Porter sanitarium in Denver of pneumonia. He had been ill only a few days.
A graduate of Denver university, Bench taught for a year in the La Junta high school, and last fall accepted the position at the Denver school.
During has college days he was prominent as a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, president of the Interfraternity group and holder of various class offices. He also was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity.
His engagement to marry Miss Shirley Granger, widely known member of the younger set at Denver, was recently announced and their wedding had been planned for June.
Surviving him, in addition to his parents are two brothers, Raymond Bench of Seattle, Wash., and James Bench of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister Ruth, in New York City; his grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Bench; two aunts, Mrs. Sam Thomas and Mrs. Hugh F. Burns, and an uncle, Henry A. Bench, all of Pueblo.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of the Davis mortuary. Interment will be made at Mountain View cemetery.
