This obituary was written by Olive Lenore Reinboldt Chitty, World Traveler, who was born on December 13, 1921 and died on Wednesday, October 24, 2012. She was the second daughter of Frances Wright Reinboldt and Joseph Carl Reinboldt of Yorkville, IL. She had an unusual life.
When Olive's daughter, Bobette, was a senior at the university, Olive started as a freshman studying to be a teacher. She earned a B.S. in Education and an M.S. in Education from Northern Illinois University and many hours beyond. Olive taught school for 23 years and traveled in 30 countries including: Austria, Belgium, Bora Bora, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Guatemala, Holland, Huahine, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Moorea, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, Raitai, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Yugoslavia. Olive went to Europe many times sometimes taking her grand-daughter or daughter with her. A few years ago she took her grandson to England with her on the Queen Mary 2 ship. Her favorite place to go for lunch was Lucerne, Switzerland where she could look across the lawn, across the lake and up the steep mountains in clean air. Most of her life and on her travels she wrote in a daily journal.
Olive was born in rural Yorkville and lived there until she married. She received her early education all in the same building from first grade through high school with such excellent teachers as Helen Hoadley, Lucy Houston and Gordon Smythe. Olive was a National Honor Student. She represented Yorkville High School at the State Typing Contest and worked at the Kendall County Record Newspaper.
July 18, 1941 she married Robert E. Chitty of Aurora. To this union two children were born: Bobette Lee Chitty (Mrs. Vernon Shoger) and Brian Lee Chitty, known in Missouri and Arkansas as Brian Edwards, who preceded Olive in death. Daughter Bobette survives her.
One sister, Lydia Reinboldt Krause of Geneva survives. The older sister, Joyce Reinboldt Schlapp, preceded Olive in death as did her two brothers, Earl Wright Reinboldt and Joseph Carl Reinboldt.
Three grandchildren: Brett Shoger, Desiree Shoger Johnson and April Shoger Stovall survive her as do five great-grandchildren: David, Alden, Nathan, Alexandra and Alina Johnson.
Nieces and nephews include: Gary Schlapp, Gail Schlapp Gaebler, both of Yorkville, and Julie Schlapp Larson of Aurora, Michael Krause of Arlington Heights, Danny Reinboldt of Yorkville, Carol Reinboldt of Colorado, and Jolene Reinboldt Burdge of Montana. Steven Reinbolt of California preceded her in death.
Olive's father was in WWI. Her two brothers, Earl and Joseph were in WWII. Two great-grandsons were in the Afghanistan War.
Olive loved family and friends, flowers and sunshine, grass and trees, learning and teaching, travel and art, gardens and home, Dominoes and Bingo. Olive started traveling to see the originals of the great paintings of the world and ended traveling seeing the great gardens of the world.
