Harold C. Gears of Cocoa Beach, FL died at home. He was the son of Charles F and Irene S Gears. He graduated from Fairport HS, attended Cazenovia College, then graduated from Hobart College with a BS degree in Chemistry, specializing in Food Technology. He started his professional working career at Certo Company in Rochester, NY, served in WWII with the 1st Armored Division, returned to a career with General Foods, Jell-O Plant in LeRoy, NY as head Chemist in Quality, then moved to Dover, DE when General Foods moved its operation. Harold was a member of the Rotary Club, American Legion, VFW and the Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Harris Gears. Surviving are his children, Mary Gears of Santa Maria, CA, Janny Gears (Walt Duma) of Cocoa Beach and Betsy Gears of Whitehouse Sta., NJ; grandchildren, Alexandra Gears-Duma and Will & Sage Clarke of Portsmouth, NH; great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Merrill; brothers, Carl Gears of Pinehurst, NC and Gordon Gears of Tulsa, OK. Services will be private. Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home is serving the family.
