Robert (Bob) Orva Painter, 63, passed away December 11, 2010.He was born February 18, 1947, in Davenport, Iowa to Orva and Lucille Painter.

Robert graduated from West High School in 1966. He was member of the West High School State Champion swim team. He lived in Davenport, Iowa until 1986 when he moved to the Dallas, Texas area.

While living in Davenport, he contributed to the community as a longtime member of the Jaycees organization and served on the Miss Iowa Pageant Board for many years. He was a softball player for Kelly's Circle Tap most of the time he lived in the quad-cities where he made lifelong friends, whom he still knew and loved.

Robert was a hunter and fisherman in his younger years, teaching his oldest son the love of the outdoors, and even returned to the area often to do these things with him as often as he could. Cory, his oldest, has grown to love these activities to the fullest and is carrying on the tradition of a true love for nature and its gifts by sharing it with his sons. Robert, during his years in the Davenport area, owned and operated the family restaurant (The Steakhouse) with his father Orva in downtown Davenport for 17 years. The restaurant was a Davenport landmark until closing.

After moving to Carrollton, TX, a suburb of Dallas, he worked for Eurest Dining Service until he retired at the age of 59. The last 11 years at Eurest he managed the Dallas County Meals on Wheels for the VNA. Robert enjoyed helping to feed the elderly and was very proud to be a part of something so generous and needed by the community.

His retirement brought him to a new chapter in his life. Robert always loved to build and repair things, which led to him starting a small handyman business. Most of his clients were people who really needed someone to help them out, and many have become lifelong friends of his and his wife, Nancy.

Riding motorcycles (Harley Davidsons) became a new passion for him and his wife. His daughter Debby and her husband Sam, along with Nathan, his youngest son, were some of their many loved riding partners. The trips, long or short, with the kids were some of his most treasured trips.

He and his wife have taken trips on their motorcycle to see many of the sites of this beautiful country, alone or with others. Some of his customers became riding partners through his business.

Bob will be missed by many, but never forgotten. He will be in the hearts and memories of many people he met and became friends with over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Painter; son Cory Painter and his wife, Becky and children, Ava 11, Kyle 13, Sean 17; daughter, Debby Johnson and husband Sam and son Justin, 16; son Nathan Painter and wife Kelly; sister, Carole Grafton and husband, Jerry and their family.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home of Lewisville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010, also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Denton County Friends of the Family, 1400 Crescent St. Ste. 5, Denton, TX 76201, www.dcfof.org
