Melvin Herman Dettman, 94, Green Bay, Wis. formerly of Peshtigo, Wis. was called to his heavenly home on February 20, 2015, at Bellin Hospital, with his family at his side. Born May 6, 1920, son of the late Robert and Ida Dettman.

He married the former Arlene Bruce on June 15, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1987.

Melvin served his country in the United States Army from 1942 – 1945, was wounded in July of 1943 and received the Purple Heart. A devoted lifelong Christian Melvin looked forward to worship services with his fellow believers. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo and Messiah Lutheran Church in Green Bay, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed participating in the Old Glory Honor Flight Mission 26 on September 11, 2014. His hobbies and interests were watching Brewer and Packer games, fishing, hunting, gardening, reading and puzzles. Melvin retired from Badger Paper Mill in 1991 after 21 years.

He is survived by his three children: Robert (Janice) Dettman, Pulaski, WI; Marcia Dettman, Green Bay, WI and Donald Dettman, Peshtigo, WI;
ten grandchildren: Rene' Jungers, Robb (Ingrid) Dettman, Laurie (Alan) Wood, Kristin (Michael) Peer, Paula (fiancé Corey Karinen) Zarling, Becky (Andy) Zarling-Thome and Kevin Zarling, Bill (Sarah) Johnston, Melinda Johnston and Michael Johnston;
12 great-grandchildren; his nephew and family, Delmar (Donna) Fritz and son John (Abby) Fritz.
Also survived by special friends, Karl & Dorothy Bergeson and Family, Ron & Loretta Kaempf and Babe Schirtzinger.

Along with his parents and wife, Arlene, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl;
granddaughter, Melissa;
sister and brother-in-law: Mabel and John Fritz;
special friends, Julie LaPlant and Mary Warshall.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo from 10 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Sauer officiating.
Burial will be held on Melvin's birthday, May 6, 2015, in Riverside Cemetery, Peshtigo. Pallbearers will be: Robb Dettman, Bill Johnston, Michael Johnston Kevin Zarling, John Fritz and Tim Bergeson.
