State news

The young lady was seventeen years old, and Bunnell is twenty-two years old.

Friday night about 9 o'clock Miss Almeda Davis, living with her father one mile and a half east of Bronson, retired to her room. Soon after the hired man, who, as it is rumored, has been waiting on Miss Davis, and lives in the same family, also went up stairs, the family supposing he was going to bed. Not long after this the man came down stairs, put on his boots and left the house. About ten o'clock an older sister went up to bed, and on passing the room of her sister called to her, but not receiving any response she opened the door and discovered her sister on the bed. She was dead, and her throat was cut from ear to ear. The family immediately started in pursuit of the man (whose name is Martin Bunnell,) and with the assistance of officers found him at his father's house. Upon being accused of committing the deed he denied it, but is now under arrest. The coroner's inquest was to have been held Saturday afternoon.
