Ruth Davis Estes of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the age of 90. She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Tahlequah, Okla., to Oswald and Leota (Smithson) Davis. Ruth served in the Women's Army Corp during WWII in London, where she met and married a Navy man, John W. Estes, on April 7, 1945. After honorable discharge, she was a homemaker and avid painter. She and Mr. Estes were also members of the volunteer fire department in Mayhill, N.M. When making her home in Lubbock, Ruth attended Broadway Church of Christ and South Plains Church of Christ. Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Marilyn Christian and husband Larry of Lubbock; one son, Pat and wife Linda of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Toby Christian and wife Caren, Ryan Christian and wife Kelly, and Neil Estes and Chad Estes; three step-grandchildren, Melissa, Chris and Clay Baker; and five great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; three sisters; and husband. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, in Combest Family Memorial Chapel with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
