Veteran bus line manager William Lockridge dies

William T. Lockridge, manager of the White Star Bus Line, died suddenly at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at. St. Margaret Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., while on a charter bus trip.

He was 58 and resided at 109 Central Ave. He was a native of Jefferson County and had been with White Star for over 35 years. He was a native of Jefferson County and had been with White Star for over 35 years. He was the secretary of White Star Lines, Inc., and had been manager for the past five years. He had been in charge of all charter operations for many years. His many trips included basketball squads of Madison High School and Hanover college, and he had driven Milan High School groups since 1965.

He also had been the driver for senior citizens groups and numerous school and club functions.

He was a member of the Madison United Presbyterian Church, Madison Elks Lodge, Madison VFW and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Lockridge was a Madison High School basketball player from 1936 to 1940, and appeared in the movie "Some Came Running," which was filmed in Madison. He was the bus driver in the move that brought Frank Sinatra into town.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Forthofer Lockridge; one daughter, Mrs. Jean Ann Giltner, Madison; two brothers, Jack, Indianapolis; and Morris, Madison; and his stepmother, Mrs. Martha Hall, Madison.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gans Funeral Home with burial in Springdale Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. tomorrow, and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.

The Madison Elks Lodge will hold memorial services at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.
