It is a fact that more people are fighting blood cancers than in the years past. In 2004 alone, more than 712,000 people of all ages were battling myeloma, lymphoma and leukemia. An even scarier statistic is that every five minutes someone new will be diagnosed and every nine minutes someone will loose his or her battle. As a community we need to step up to the plate and take a swing in helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with their mission. For we never know when someone we love or even our self could become a part of these statistics.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to "cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families." The society has 63 community-based chapters and in 2004 logged 812,000 interactions with people via their Information Referral Center. Today the Society supports four major programs: research, patient services, public and professional education, advocacy and community services.

As you plan for your charitable donations during the year I would ask that you keep the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in your giving plans. As I once read, cures will come from research, but research requires funding.
Thanks! Sara:)
