Bio

I was born in Prince George's County, Maryland May 8, 1951. My family of five sisters (including one half sister) and one brother began our childhood in Capital Heights, Maryland and finished our teen age years in Camp Springs, Maryland. I didn't begin my family ancestry research until 1979 or 1980 when I read that the estate of Francis Scott Key was to be auctioned and open to the public. I wanted badly to attend this event, but situations prevented that, much to my dismay. Stories of our family heritage was not strongly supported by our parents, I'm sorry to say, however, once the interest was sparked, my father, James Key Hill, started to bring forth some names and stories of our family ties to the Key family (actually Philip Barton Key, Francis' uncle is our direct ancestor) that soon led to other surprises. My grandmother on my father's side of the family, Clara Randolph Howard, was the daughter of Florence Babington Lamar Moore and William Key Howard, Jr. who was the son of William Key Howard, Sr. and Clara Haxall Randolph. Revolutionary War Hero Col John Eagar Howard and the many facets of the Randolphs of Virginia give way to avenues of historic notoriety that I still find unbelievable. Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, Pocahontas (yep, I'm right there with the rest of you, although I have actual proof), Anne Boleyn and her cousin Catherine Howard - both wives of King Henry VIII, and so on and so on. I do know the Hollywood Cemetery well with a large portion of the Howards and Randolphs and Haxalls having family plots in that amazing resting place. I know this isn't a "short bio", but you must admit, I have a lot of burial ground to cover, so to speak. I do have a family tree on Ancestry.com that I've been working on since 2006. My mother's parents are also part of my research with surnames of Boteler, Moran, White, and Young. I currently live in Frederick, Maryland where Uncle Francis is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. I want to say "HI" to Gene White, a cousin of mine and fellow Find A Grave member.
