My paternal grandmother was a Butler. I recently discovered that this old Irish name traces back to generations of nobility. How a branch of that ended up as farmers in Auglaize County, I'll never know!

Also: my mother's family is from the Hocking Hills area. Most of them trace back to Lancaster, Ohio, and the surrounding areas. Some names are Bookman/Buchman, Hedges, Defenbaugh, Martzolff, Acton and Dickson by marriage. And my paternal great-grandmother is from the Hocking Hills area also. Her maiden name was Mowery, in Hocking County. There is also Belmont County Dickson in the Mowery line.
