Many days have gone by, turned into years long ago
I reach for my album, because I long for you so.

As colourful leaves descend from a majestic family tree,
That moment is captured becoming a photographic memory.

Ancestors on tintype, images frozen in time,
So we know who we are, have been passed down the line.

Black and white prints of grandparents now yellowed by age,
In the "Book Of Life" this collection forms the next page.

Snapshots of a beautiful young women, a man with eyes sky blue
Soon to become parents of a baby daughter and little boys "two".

Because of these treasures, my link to the past
Memories of my loved ones forever will last.

And when a dear friend asks me my life story to impart,
I'll show her my "inheritance", the people who live in my heart.

Prayer For Genealogists

Lord, help me dig into the past,
And sift the sands of time,
That I might find the roots that made
This family tree mine.
Lord, help me trace the ancient roads,
On which my fathers trod,
And led them through so many lands,
To find our present sod.
Lord, help me find an ancient book,
Or dusty manuscript,
That's safely hidden now away,
In some forgotten crypt,
Lord, let it bridge the gap that haunts
My soul, when I can't find
The missing link between some name
That ends the same as mine.

.....................................

ONE FINAL GIFT.
Scatter me not to the restless winds
Nor toss my ashes to the sea.
Remember now those years gone by
When loving gifts I gave to thee.
Remember now the happy times
The family ties are shared.
Don't leave my resting place unmarked
As though you never cared.
Deny me not one final gift
For all who came to see.
A simple lasting proof that says
I loved and you loved me.

I shook my family tree
and a bunch of nuts fell out.
