I had no concept of what genealogy was when I set out to disprove my great uncle's claim to be related to Sam Houston in a 1916 Hynds Family History. By the time I proved his claim, I was hooked. I have experienced goose bumps as I stood in the Courthouse as I held the first marriage book of Grayson County, Texas in which my great-great grandparents marriage was recorded. I shook the hand of the hall skeleton. I have walked the land and stood beside the graves of my ancestors and felt their presents. Researching my family has been the best thing I have done for myself. There is a sense of pride in knowing the life each of my ancestors lived. Had they not lived the life they lived, I would have not been born.
