Born in Anniston, AL but have lived in Birmingham, AL most of my life. I attended Birmingham-Southern College for my BS degree, Vanderbilt University for my MS degree, and the University of Alabama for my Ph.D degree.

After 35 years teaching college chemistry I retired and then married (I had never been married before) a retired Battalion Chief with the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service. In the marriage I have gained 2 daughters, 2 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 2 great-granddaughters.
