Bio

Hi,
I escaped Ohio for the big sky country of Montana, but brought my genealogy hobby with me.

It's okay if you wish to download or use the grave photos I took. I'm not fussy about that, I think it's kind of the point of this website.

re: Malta Cemetery, I'm sorry I was unable to take better photographs. Due to the geology of the area and frequent lack of concrete bases, many have sunk into the ground. I skipped taking photos of many graves which were so sunken into the ground I couldn't make out the name. I'd guess at least 20% of the markers in the older parts of the cemetery were too sunken to discern the names. It's not a well-maintained cemetery, unfortunately. I did my best to document what I could, given the circumstances. I will never cause damage to stones or grounds to get a better picture. I'm also disabled, and rarely pass through Malta, so I also lack the strength and time to dig them up in the absence of ethics.

I have ancestors who emigrated to the Auglaize County, Ohio environs, and I taught myself to do translations of the low German obituaries in the Minster Post. I formally trained in 3 other languages, but I was stationed in Germany 1.5 years. I can usually extract the most relevant information, but my translations flow awkwardly. If I find a memorial with a German-language obituary while researching my family tree, I'll translate it and submit as an edit. I'm a geek/nerd/dork.

Good luck on your research.
