Researching my Virgin Islands ancestry has been a rewarding experience. Along the way I have accumulated many new relatives and friends. The US Virgin Islands, formerly known as the Danish West Indies, have a rich and little known history. Many records from that period have survived but they are housed in US and Danish national archives, and are therefore somewhat difficult to access. However, our cemeteries are a remarkable source of family history. I hope these images will help others find and reclaim long, lost and forgotten ancestors.
