Bio

Family History has been important to me since I first started researching genealogy for a boy scout project back in 1978. The Brown family background is mostly centralized around east central Illinois in Coles and Cumberland Counties starting with Jordan Brown who came across the river from Kentucky with his bride Lydia and settled near Johnstown in Cumberland County before statehood. Jordan was one of the first to file a homestead at the Vandalia Capital when they were first offered. Jordan was also a friend of Thomas Lincoln (President Abraham Lincoln's Father) and always considered that he had sold the Lincoln family fence posts which Abe helped put up. The Family has been involved in Farming in some capacity for 6 generations. My Mothers family (the Turners, Burwells, Laytons, Elliotts, Whangers, French's) were more centralized around the Moultrie County area of Sullivan and Allenville. I just recently came into the possession of the Family Archives of Geneology that where updated in the 1980's so have been adding as much as possible when I have time to the site so others can share in the information.
