Bio

I'm related to pretty much any Colville or Breckenridge in Ohio or Illinois. And nearly everyone in the Scottish Cemetery in Argyle Illinois. And a lot of folk in the Argyll, Scotland Cemeteries, because that's where they all came from.

You are welcome to use any photos of mine of graves for your family trees. If you take credit for it or find someone that actually wants to pay for them—that’s between you and your conscience and God. I’m not losing sleep over it.

I like to connect families on FAG especially children that parents may have had to leave behind when they moved. I research it carefully. I don’t always include my sources in my suggestions but feel free to ask because I never make suggestions without valid sources (not just from Ancestry Trees).

On the hand, a lot of these records are very easy to find for yourself and I get tired of doing people's homework for them. If you are too lazy or ignorant to know how to find the records yourself then maybe you shouldn't be managing memorials.

Tips for people researching Scottish Ancestors:

Women kept their names after they married. It is not unusual for them to be listed on the headstone with their own name.

If a child died a family would often give a subsequent child the same name. Don’t assume the first child with that name in a family is the one you are looking for.

Spelling is not standardized even up to late 19th Century. Don’t get hung up on spelling. My family name is Colville, Colvill or Colvin. Often on different records for the same person. Breckenridge, Breakendge, Brackenridge—all the same name.

The following given names are all interchangeable:

•Patrick/Peter
•Donald/Daniel
•Agnes/ Nancy (sometimes Ann)
•Janet/Jeanette/Jenat/Jessie
-also with Jean/Jane/Jennie. However you will also find living Janets AND Jeans in the same family.

There’s more. You should study the country of the ancestors you are researching or for whom you are maintaining memorials.
