I have been with Ancestry.com since 2013 and have contributed to the following families: Godeaux, Hudson, Richard, Grimmett, Lejeune, Carrier, Rourks, and Thibodeaux. It has been a very exciting journey thus far. If you have any information on these families or if you need any information please don't hesitate to email me.

Cemetery Restoration Project

Some friends of ours just purchased 60 acres around a local cemetery, with the cemetery located in the middle of his property line. When my husband and I went with them to look at the property we found the cemetery buried deep in a wooded area down a long narrow gravel road. My heart was broken when I saw that no one was caring for this cemetery. When I contacted the person in charge of it she said it was not a cemetery funded by any church or other organization and that it was donated by the first landowner, therefore no one is solely responsible for taking care of the grounds. She stated it was on an individual family basis, meaning the families are responsible for taking care of their own people. It was very disheartening to hear this. With this, my husband and I along with our children and our friends and their children have decided to take over the maintenance of the grounds not only making it presentable but we also want to restore the graves that have been forgotten about or maybe just no longer have family to take care of them. There were many headstones falling into the ground due to erosion from rain and the elements and also many unmarked graves. The lady stated that they have no clue who the unmarked graves are for and no one has this info. We have set out to make this a family and friend project because we feel that even though loved ones are gone, they aren't forgotten. The reason I'm posting this is two fold. One, I have already taken 60 or more pictures and posted them on this site for families to find their loved ones. I still have many more to take and as soon as I get a pic of the person you requested I will send you an email letting you know I uploaded it to this site. Two, if you know of anyone else buried here, please let us know. We would like to update their profiles here along with pics and would also like to let families see the progress of the cemetery as we restore it to be a home for their lost loved ones. Personally we do not have any one here that we know but we want to make sure that those here are not forgotten. If you have any info that would help us or comments please email me at [email protected].
