Bio

I am first and foremost a child of God, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I try my best to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead in whatever I do. I have been married to my best friend, Juan, for 43 years. We have 5 grown children and 10 grandchildren. I am a retired elementary teacher, who has taught k,2,3,&5.
I have always considered myself an old soul. Both of my parents are the first born in their families, which makes me as the oldest, first born on both sides. This position comes with privilege as well as responsibility. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, especially my dad’s parents. My grandpa died when I was six, at the age of 64. After that, I spent even more time with my grandmother and her sisters(playing cards or sitting around talking). I was 14 when she passed, and just two years before that her mother died at 99years old.
I’ve been fascinated with the elderly, but not in a creepy way, in a historical way, in a way that asks; how was life different for them when they were my age? How was it different for them in 2nd grade? What kinds of chores did they have and how did they do them? I love looking at the old homes on Facebook that I would never live in nor could ever afford. But not out of wishful thinking or envy, but of appreciation for the labor and craftsmanship that went into the homes first, and then, what would it have been like to live in that time or place?
I also love to read. Historical novels are my pick, usually 1800’s or early 1900’s.
I’m interested in genealogy, and started a family tree a few years back on ancestry.com, but it was slow going because I just did not have the time. Once when I was looking up facts for one of my great grandfathers, it was then that I got into Find a Grave. It’s a slow start but I’m getting started. I’ve done two memorials, my dad’s and one of my grandmother’s and I’ve also taken over the maintenance on my other grandmother and my dad’s brother.
And my family tree? I’ve got 1,463 people on it so far in the U.S., from Norway, Sweden, and Mexico. I also have new friends on Facebook from the U.S. and Norway who are distant cousins that I did not know even 6 months ago.
