Marine Corps, Navy and Army Casualties AUG. 28, 2021 The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of 13 service members August 26 as the result of an enemy attack while supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel, non-combatant evacuation operations, in Kabul, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation.

a child of military family, whose childhood summers often spent at grandparents Louise and Kenneth TITUS in Ware Centre, 299 Belchertown Rd., a 1779 home up from the Church Meetinghouse and Grange nearby ... barefoot on 8 acres of early morning dew-kissed grass and blue forget-me-nots, onward to rocky cow pastures granted use by Kenneth to the elderly Mrs. CHROBAK, a wonder herself, who from across Belchertown Road walked her cows early each morn for grazing ... of fresh cow dung squishing between my toes, lament of but 1-inch bathtub water rationed then from the well to bathe ... of Davy Crockett an adopted pet (much to their anxiety) a skunk ... of the absolutely best bottled milk ever from CHRABASZCZ dairy farm ... memories that never leave the heart ... in a town named Ware ... Ware MA

the elderly Mrs. MONARDO, mother of our landlord; her thoughtfulness, treading carefully down the footpath to greet our mom, toting a basket of warm homemade bread and an aside of garlic infused melted butter, speaking only in her native Italy tongue. Long Beach CA

first military transfer: living in a hotel run by a Margaret HILTON with whom she and our mom became fast friends; so many strange sights and smells, blue waters, white sand and of little grass, coconut palm trees, horseshoe crabs, scorpions, starfish, hammerhead sharks, Portuguese jellyfish, octopus, barracudas ... moving into a Victorian, and school! the castle-looking stone building had been converted from long use as a lookout-fort to an elementary school of wide planked worn wood floors, no air conditioning so windows fully opened, teacher Mrs. Elizabeth BAILEY; here mid-3d grade so handed a penmanship booklet to self-teach cursive writing, we were here until mid-4th grade, Spanish language mandatory.
