Bio

I have been totally absorbed in researching my family tree since August 2017, and taken on a virtual, transglobal journey back through the centuries, learning along the way how my ancestors lived and worked in vastly different political and socio-economic times.

On my mother's side of the tree, I'm descended from the Wither family of Wigtownshire, the Norval family of Strathblane, the Dowd family of County Armagh, and the Bryson family of Lesmahagow; on my father's side, I am a descendant of the Gilmour, Bennett, Cooper, Haddow and Mason families of Glasgow's east end, and the McLaren, Salmond, McKellar and Sinclair families, whose ancestors originated from Stirlingshire and Argyllshire.

While researching my tree, I have become pretty good at deciphering old styles of writing and calligraphy, and am therefore happy to help others transcribe headstones or historical documents, especially if we have common ancestry.

I hope that my work might prove useful to future generations who also catch the genealogy bug!
