When I started out on this long journey to find my family and my ancestry, it was not an easy task. My mother's side of the family was unknown to me, because she became a missing person when I was three months old and although I knew my father, I never actually lived with him, because he remarried and he died at the age of only 42 - so I did not ever speak to him about his ancestors. I soon found that my father's line had many changes of name and that even his surname and my maiden name were fictitious - invented by my Great Grandfather who managed Hippodromes and used his Stage Name on Official documents too - over the years at least 25 people have been given this fraudulent name.
Now I have been building my Family Tree for about 25 years and interested in genealogy for several years since my son had a DNA test...
I got my DNA tested too and now about ten members of my family and extended close family have submitted DNA tests as well... which enables us to check the research I have been doing and verify it with all those AncestryDNA Matches.
I have found the process of tracing my family tree to be an amazingly healing experience with many wonderful and sometimes shocking surprises! Now we've included Tree verification using the added dimension of DNA Matching, we are reminded that it is the complexity of our genes inherited from the beginning of mankind that makes us what we are today, and accounts for the very nature of our being.
Armed with this knowledge, we can resist those bad traits and uphold whatever is good, whatever is right, whatever is worthwhile and wholesome... and aim to pass this onto our descendants.
As I find my family and extended family on here at Find a Grave, I am leaving a trail of Flowers, saying a prayer and leaving a few words of comfort... usually simply 'Rest in Peace'.
