Bio

I love researching the life stories of people
who are buried in graveyards,
I have a particular interest in local people:
family members,
people of local historical interest,
and soldiers who gave their lives in service of their country.
If a good story catches my attention
I will try and create a Memorial for the person. !!!

To date I have photographed all the still existing
headstones and monuments that are
in the following cemeteries,
and I have researched, and uploaded,
a bio on each person who is named
on the Memorial Inscription:

Christ Church, Oldham Road, Ashton-under-Lyne

Stamford Street Methodists, Ashton-under-Lyne

The extension for St Michael's Churchyard, Ashton-under-Lyne

Mossley Methodists Church

Old St George's Church, Cocker Hill, Stalybridge

St James' Church, Oldham

The Particular Baptist Church, Ogden, Newhey

All the memorial inscriptions for Delph Independent Chapel were recorded by Saddleworth Historical Society, and these I have now transcribed onto FAG. I would like to Thank Michael Flynn, Find a Grave Member 49017046, for the photographs he has taken of the headstones in the difficult to access Chapelyard. The Chapel is currently in a derelict state awaiting conversion into residential units.

During 2022 the overgrown graveyard extension of St John's Church, Hey, Lees, Oldham, was strimmed, and this allowed access to photograph some of the headstones and monuments that have been unseen for years. I photographed as many as possible in the graveyard extension, and as many as possible that lie and stand around the church itself. There are many more headstones yet to photograph, but the grounds are overgrown and difficult to access.

I have uploaded 125 Monumental Inscriptions for the now lost Queen Street Methodists Church, Hurst Cross, Ashton-under-Lyne; it is not known whether or not these cover all of the burials as the Burial Register has been lost. There is only one remaining headstone in this churchyard.

I have uploaded 64 burials for the now lost Independent Chapel, Stalybridge.

There were only 10 burials at Holy Trinity Church, Stalybridge, and I have input details for all of them. This is the smallest burial site in Stalybridge.

The largest C of E burial site in Stalybridge, indeed in England, is that of St Paul's. All the Commonwealth War Graves Burials at this site have been uploaded onto to Find A Grave. In 1999 the grounds were landscaped, and most headstones and memorials were removed. I have I have photographed all the still existing ones. and I have researched, and uploaded, a bio on each person who is named
in the Memorial Inscription. I have undertook an audit of the records of the Monumental Inscriptions on those headstone and monuments that were on the removed, and uploaded records of all those that mention a loved one who gave their lives during WW1 and WW2 and who are buried abroad. I have similarly uploaded records of all those that have an interesting connection with Stalybridge ie JP's, Mill Owners, Poets, Mayors, Surgeons, Matrons, Conductors of Stalybridge Old Band, Gamekeepers, Revs, Murder Victims, Headmaster, Masons, and those Killed during the course of their Employment.

I have similarly also uploaded all the Monumental Inscriptions on the headstones that were recorded, in 1971, before the headstones were removed from St George's Church, Mossley, when the grounds were landscaped.

I have created FAG memorials for all of the Commonwealth War Graves at Goodshaw Particular Baptist Church, and have photographed a few of the still existing headstones and monuments that still exist in both the old burial yard (which is now closed) and the new burial yard (which is still in use).
