My husband and I have always liked exploring old cemeteries. I joined Find a Grave three years ago and enjoy helping people with their genealogical research by fulfilling photo requests in local cemeteries and by adding photos to memorials with no images. It's as if you are turning on a light in a darkened room. If no marker is visible in the specified plot, I take a photo of the plot nonetheless. If a headstone or other memorial exists, I try to add a second image of the surrounding area as a point of reference.
Inscriptions on old headstones are rapidly eroding and many will soon be lost. Their history is worth preserving for future generations.
UPDATE—FALL 2022 : We have moved to N. Yorkshire, England to be closer to family. We will miss Calgary and Canada very much. Hope to continue fulfilling photo requests on this side of the Atlantic once we're settled. Many thanks to the Calgary Find a Gravers who helped me get started.
