My family has been traced back to some of the very first courageous English settlers who took the brave journey from England to New Zealand to face a hostile new world that would bear no resemblance to anything they had ever known. My paternal grandfather's side includes our proud connection to the strong Māori Whānau created when an English whaler married a woman who my Grandfather always referred to as as "his Maori Princess Grandmother". Turns out she was his great grandmother who was indeed the daughter of a respected Maori chief. My cousin and mother have painstakingly traced our family trees and now I'm digitally connecting them so future generations will know who they are and hopefully, current generations may stop, click and remember the brave souls who forged New Zealand, The Land of the Long White Cloud.
