This page is dedicated to all four branches of my father's family who settled the very northeast corner of Mississippi in a community named "Short".

I've studied the descendants of my four ggg-grandfathers on this side - Langston Osborn (son William Riley Osborn settled in Short around 1870), John Hudson, Presley Johnson, and George W. Billings - and will share any helpful information. I have a vast amount of information on these four men, their ancestors, and their descendants.

I'm now working on a fifth ggg-grandfather, Johnathan "Jottie" Holcomb of Marion County, Alabama.

If you live between Iuka, Mississippi and Counce, Tennessee, we're probably kinfolk.

"Sam" is for my great-great-grandfather Samuel Billings who was a Union supporter (as were the Hudsons) killed in a feud just after the end of the Civil War. Since his body was reportedly cast into the Tennessee River, he has no gravesite.

My father, who died in March 2022, was the last known living great-grandchild of Griffin & Polly Johnson and Sam & Sarah Catherine Billings.
