JT985, a transport variant of the Liberator bomber, left RAF Holmsley South in Hampshire, in bad weather, at 07.20 on Friday 15th June 1944 bound for Palam in India. At 08.15 it crashed near Polar Wood in Dorset with the loss of all 27 on board.
