*1) 1883 WI. Capitol Collapse Victims

On the afternoon of 11/8/1883, laborers were working on completing the new south wing of the state capitol, when one of the walls caved in. This caused the roof to collapse on the lower floors, "pancaking" them, to the basement level. A total of 5 men died, and several more were injured. The following is a list of some of the victims (killed & injured):
