*3) Peshtigo Fire Victims (10/8/1871)

On October 8th, 1871, a massive firestorm (some even called it a "fire tornado"), swept through northeast Wisconsin. While there is no "offical" death toll (census records for the area, were very "sketchy", at best), it is believed that anywhere from 1200-2500 people lost their lives in the fire (the mass grave at the Peshtigo Fire Cemetery, itself holds the unknown remains of over 300 people).....Other Statistics Of The 1871 fire: 12 Towns were destroyed. 1.5 million Acres were burned, and 1875 sq. miles of forest was burned.
